Competition Success

Two of Burnley Judo Club.s most promising young players, Catherine Henry and Connah Stockdale, took part in the recent North West Area Junior Mini Age Banded Championships. Both players performed exceptionally well on the day against some very strong opposition, in this popular and highly rated competition.

Catherine started off very strongly in her section. Using her past competition experience, the Burnley girl fought with great discipline to convincingly win her first two fights. In her third fight, Catherine found herself against a slightly bigger opponent. However, the Burnley player was undaunted and again fought very well and should consider herself unlucky to lose the fight in the closing stages, yet still secure the Silver medal.

Connah Stockdale also started off in great form. The Burnley player controlled the contest from the start against his opponent, eventually proving the stronger player to win his fight in convincing style. In his second fight, as with his club teammate Catherine, Connah was up against a more experienced opponent. Despite displaying some excellent judo and temperament, the Burnley youngster lost this fight in the final minute of a very even contest, to merit the Silver medal position.
