Midlands Open Junior Judo Competition

Three junior players from Burnley judo club recently attended the very highly rated .category A. Midlands Open Junior Judo competition in Stoke-on-Trent. Promising prospect Stacey Cummings was first up for the Burnley club. Fighting against a higher graded opponent, Stacey displayed some good aggressive judo throughout the contest, taking her opponent the full distance only to lose the fight on points. In her second contest, against an older Cadet International player, Stacey again produced some excellent judo, only to be thrown in the second half of the fight, and go out of the competition. Promising John Entwistle, was another who displayed aggressive judo on the day. John lost his first contest, after a very even fight, but bounced back in style with an impressive win in his second fight. In his next fight, John contested the Bronze medal position and was unlucky to be thrown near the end of the contest by his bigger opponent. Chris Cummings (jnr), as is becoming the norm, was again the youngest player in his 16 . 20 year old section. Chris again displayed some good judo but was on the losing side in both his matches against some very high-class opposition, in an event that boasted both Commonwealth and European champions.
