Another DAN grade
Following on from recent successes in its 50th anniversary year in the Town, Burnley judo club has yet another reason to celebrate. Congratulations to Alex Green (24) from all at Burnley Judo Club, on recently gaining the coveted rank of Black belt, at a recent grading in Sutton, St. Helens. Amazingly, Alex has achieved this feat in only two years in the sport; as opposed to the generally accepted five years it usually takes to reach this rank. Alex also has an impressive list of competition successes to his name, including a Bronze medal in the prestigious Lakeland Open (2002), Silver in the Lancashire Championships (2002), Silver in the North West Championships (2003), Gold in the Lancashire Championships (2003), Gold in the North West Championships (2004), Burnley club player of the year (2004) and two Silver medals in the Lancashire Championships 2004, including one in the notoriously difficult .Open Weight. category. Alex would like to extend his thanks to senior coaches Mark Walsh and Ron Hardaker, for all the help given to him in achieving his Black belt. He would further encourage people of all ages to take up this sport to build self-confidence and reach excellent fitness levels, while training in a very friendly environment. C. Cummings.
